Historic Name WELEETKA TOWN HALL AND JAIL
Description of Significance THE WELEETKA TOWN HALL AND JAIL SERVED AS THE HEADQUARTERS FOR MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT IN WELEETKA BETWEEN 1910 AND 1957. THE JAIL WAS BUILT IN 1910 BASED ON THE DESIGN OF A.C. DAVIS. IT WAS MODIFIED IN 1940 BY ARCHITECT HUGH BROWN. IT IS A SINGLE-STORY SANDSTONE BUILDING DESIGNED IN A VERNACULAR EXPRESSION OF THE ROMANESQUE REVIVAL STYLE. IT HAS A GABLED ROOF, WITH AN OFFSET, GABLED ENTRY PORTAL. ALTHOUGH THE 1910 DESIGN WAS MODIFIED IN 1940, THE BUILDING TODAY LOOKS MUCH AS IT DID IN THAT YEAR. LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER, 3/25/1993.
